Two Thumbs Up for “A Patriot Act”

No, not the USA PATRIOT Act, the law enforcement establishment’s wet dream of a bill that un-Constitutionally infringes on our civil tights and liberties. You know, the bill the Bush Administration and its allies rushed through Congress in the aftermath of 9/11.

No, I’m referring to “A Patriot Act,” the New York Theatre Workshop production featuring Mark Crispin Miller, available on DVD.

I recently purchased and viewed this DVD, which sets out a bold case for the proposition that Shrub, Rove, Cheney, Rumsfeld, the Professor, and Maryann (ok, not the last two) are the vanguard of a new theocractic, fascistic movement that desires to conquer this country and the world.

Miller points out that Bush and friends are not really hypocrites because they are not content to just wear one face in public and another at home. They are much worse than hypocrites. They actually project their vile thoughts and habits onto others. When they call others cowardly, immoral, or even evil, it is because that is what they know they themselves are.

You may be thinking that this is all old-hat, stuff you already know on some level or another. You may be right, but Miller puts it all together in a uniquely entertaining and absolutely frightening way. This film is scarier than the Exorcist, the Shining, and Psycho combined (mostly because it's real). Miller’s done his homework on the facts, and it’s hard to argue with his logic. Perhaps this is the film we should have taken our token Republican friends to see last summer instead of Fahrenheit 9/11.

Well, it’s never too late to see the Bushco Neocons for the self-hating jihadists they are. Watch this video. I’ll even let you borrow my copy.

Too few people know the truth. If censorship in America continues to grow, the only way to express your discontent will be through art ...

Whether we are talking about small town politics or national politics America is getting to be a scary place to express Free Speech and to expect our officials and police to act as advertised.

Try putting "Ritt Goldstein" in a search engine. He was an up and coming political force in Connecticut and successful small business owner. He proposed Civilian Oversight of Police and want police held accoutable for illegal acts. It got so bad for him he fled to Sweden asking for political asylum.

I proposed Civilian Oversight of Police was attacked by a police informant on my property and put in prison for being beaten on my property based on Police perjury. I lost $500,000 in real estate, my freedom and my family.

Try putting "Steven G. Erickson" in a search engine

Good review, and good flick. Two blue-state thumbs up!

As for free speech... If you were at the most recent inaugural ceremony and following parade, you would doubt free speech existed in this country. I saw many acts of free speech tackled to the ground (literally). If you only watched on TV, the networks did a good job of hiding it. But some of those small pauses in Bush's speech weren't just thought pauses...

And the fact that most of the American public is completely unaware of how their rights have been/are being trampled by such things like the Patriot Act (the bill not the movie) and our currently security policies is utterly disturbing.

Where in Sweden did Goldstein go? Does he have a couch we can crash on?

I'm certainly looking forward to Mark Crispin Millers next book to come out.
