The War on Drugs Rules!
Let me take you back to those heady days of October 2001, when Get Your War On published these prophetic words:
"Oh my god, this War on Terrorism is gonna rule! I can't wait until the war is over and there's no more terrorism!"
"I know! Remember when the U.S. had a drug problem, and then we declared a War on Drugs, and now you can't buy drugs anymore? It'll be just like that!"
Well, folks, we are losing the War on Drugs so badly that Oregon is going to require a prescription to buy NyQuil, Sudafed, and Tylenol Cold. I guess this is another step toward making us ever more at the mercy of physicians and PhRMA. But it is for our own good, after all.
What about those who have no medical insurance? I guess they will have to suffer in silence like the detainees in Gitmo. You know, the ones that will be free to leave as soon as we have won the War on Terror?
So much for successful wars. Is there such a thing?

Um, the result of the second world war worked out quite well for the jews in the end, I'd say.
Not to mention how well the war of independence worked out for you chaps. Tally ho.
The reason 'War on terrorism' doesn't work because it is a war not on a definite enemy but on something entirely intangible. It's like - instead of separating two fighting children, instead trying to stop all children all over the world ever fighting by creating a 'war on naughtiness'. It's not just idealistic. It's bordering on insane.
Besides, we Brits are cynical (or more cynical than our prime minister) - we remember that US money kept the IRA terrorists in arms for years. How long before a 'war on history' covers up that ugly fact?
